Master Ratan

Master Ratan, born Syed Nazir Ali Rizvi, was an actor in Bollywood. He was born on 21^st August 1942 to Syed Abbaz Ajmeri, an actor cum producer in Ajmer. Ratan’s family moved to Bombay when he was a kid. He started performing in movies as a child actor, when he was five. He was married and had two sons and two daughters.

Boot Polish featured Ratan and another child artist Baby Naaz, in the lead roles. The film was bankrolled by RajKapoor and directed by Prakash Arora. The film received the Best Film award at the Filmfare Awards.

In 1956, Ratan’s family shifted to Pakistan. His brother Wazir Ali owned a production house, Films Hayat. In 1959, Ratan made his debut as a lead actor in Nagin, a Pakistani film. He was just 17. In 1969, he directed a film, Daastan, under his real name, Syed Nazir Ali Rizvi. Besides directing, he produced and performed in the film.

In 1977, he lost his daughter in an accident, which made him quit the film industry. Ratan passed away in California, USA, on 12^th December 2016 at 74.
