K. Narayan Kale

K Narayan Kale, also known by the name Keshav Narayan Kale, was a film director and writer, who worked predominantly in Hindi and Marathi language films. He was born on Feb 24, 1904 in Dayal, Maharashtra. Besides directing, Narayan also worked in several movies as an actor. Narayan started his career at a very young age. He started acting in Marathi films when he was just twenty-two years old. His first movie as an actor was Satyavijay, which was released in 1926. It was directed by Shree Nath Patankar, and the star cast included Krishna Athavale, Thatte, and K. Narayan Kale.

In the subsequent years, Narayan acted in several Hindi and Marathi films such as Patal Ketu, Jai Somnath, Bhikharan, Pati Patni, Tati Talwar, Aparadhi, Khubsoorat Bala, Rambha Rani, Mahabharat, Mera Iman, Usha, Dharmatma, Amar Jyoti, Parakh, Paisa, Ek Surat Do Dil, and Sachcha Sapna. He made his directorial debut in 1937 with the film Wahan. The movie primarily depicts an ancient Aryan society ruled by a dictator named Kodandavarma (Chandramohan), who is committed to the ideals of Aryan justice. It was mainly a romantic film, but it also addressed the ideals of justice and morality.

The main characters were the notorious vice boss Madhuvrat (Chhotu) who plots a foul play against Kodandavarma and traps Uttam (Ulhas) who was the designated heir to the throne, and the dancing girl Lata (Apte), who was forced to seduce Uttam to alleviate his suffering. Some of the other directorial works of Narayan include Mazha Mulga, Mera Ladka, Lapandav, Baeelveda, Ammaldar, and Didi. One of his movies, Didi, which was released in 1959, turned out to be a major blockbuster. It was about a character Gopal, whose sister decides everything for him, until a series of events causes a lot of trouble in the family.
