The serial was based on a former novel by Samra Bukhari named 'Hasti ka Ahang' and first premiered on 7th November 2015 and continued up until 2nd April 2016. It has a total of 21 episodes each with a running period of 30-40 minutes approximately. The serial revolves around a woman who is desperate to change the mentality of her husband after their marriage. She is fed up with the way men treat women after marriage and how society just accepts it and even normalizes it. The serial begins by portraying Gul-e-Rana, a young woman who is kind and humble in nature. They have a happy family consisting of her parents and her sister. However, tragedy hits the family when her father dies in a car accident and ultimately Gul-e-Rana and the rest of the family are taken in by their uncle who is rich and can afford the cost of living of the entire family.

Rana's aunts hate her seeing her only as a thorn in their path to inherit all of the property. They constantly mock their family for their financial state. Maria and Laila, the daughters of the aunts are depicted as selfish and self-centred women who are far inferior to Gul-e-Rana. Maria and Laila both compete to gain the attention of a man named Adeel. Adeel is portrayed as a narcissistic man who happens to be a cousin of Rana. He doesn't respect women or value them. He sees women as toys who can be played with and are only meant to be there to serve men and pleasure them. He sees Rana as the perfect woman to get married to because he thinks that Rana can be easily manipulated and controlled and she won't say anything about changing his attitude and his way of living. He tries to pursue Rana but in vain. Zafri who happens to be another cousin of Rana is interested in marrying her to ensure that Maria and Adeel can get married without problems. On one certain occasion, Adeel misbehaves with Rana and she slaps him hard for his behavior. Adeel gets angry and in turn, he makes a plan.

He asks for her forgiveness the next day and tricks her by taking her away to a faraway abandoned house. He blackmails her into making a choice between her honor and marrying him. She reluctantly agrees to the marriage but vows revenge. When Rana's mother gets to know about their affair she is shocked. Eventually, they get married and so begins Rana's married life. Everybody assumes that they are in love together but in reality, their married life is hell. They both hate each other and Adeel treats her nothing but as an object. He tries to order her and control her life but Rana keeps disobeying him. She ignores everything Adeel says to show him his place in her life. Soon Adeel suspects an affair between Gul-e-Rana and Ashar who happens to be Rana's cousin. Rana just sees Ashar as a good friend and nothing else.

When Adeel goes to Islamabad he brings Rana with him and lies to his father that he wants Rana to take care of him while he is sick. The rift between Adeel and Rana continues to increase. When Adeel's friend Mona comes to stay with them Adeel tries to force himself on her. Gul-e-Rana discovers this deed and helps Mona while Adeel runs out in embarrassment and guilt at being caught. Soon Adeel begins to hit Rana when she talks back to him disrespecting him. He feels guilty but does nothing to change his behavior. Instead, he continues to flirt with other women and even in front of Rana to make her jealous. But it doesn't work because Rana has already given up on their marriage and she states that nothing that Adeel does can ever make her jealous. She calls Ashar to check up on him and states that she misses him. Adeel uses this event to create a scene in front of his father Kamal and pretends that Gul-e-Rana is having an affair with another man.

Rana doesn't fight for her case because she knows that no matter what her father-in-law would always support and take the word of his son over her's. Soon after this Maria enters their life once more with the sole motive of marrying Adeel so that she can inherit the entire property and use Adeel to her own benefit. Adeel continues to flirt with Maria in front of Rana and even states that he doesn't care if she moves out of his life because he would marry Maria and fill the gap. Insulted and tired Gul-e-Rana decides to follow her heart and move out of the house considering the fact that their marriage was over in a way and the fact that she has done nothing but suffer with Adeel. She moves out and goes to live with Ashar who's father has just been in a fatal accident. When Adeel gets to know about Maria's plan he decides to get Rana back and even his father begins to be wary of Maria after seeing his son desperate to escape marriage with Maria. However, when Adeel reaches Ashar's house to take Rana back with him, Rana denies and even Ashar stands up for her. He asks Adeel to return leaving Rana alone. When Adeel has an accident and is badly injured Kamal encourages Gul-e-Rana to take care of Adeel as a wife should.

Gul-e-Rana reluctantly agrees and out of pure kindness takes good care of Adeel. She makes sure that Adeel receives proper food and medication and attends to his every need. Adeel still doesn't change his behaviour towards her but gradually he realizes his mistakes and asks her to just spend time with him instead of doing all the chores. Rana states that there's nothing to be said between them and the fact that her life was filled with sadness when she was with him. However, after talking they somewhat come to a negotiation, and slowly their attitude towards each other changes for the better. In the meantime, Ashar dies because of cancer and Rana rushes back to his side, broken-hearted. After this whole ordeal, she finally accepts her destiny and decides to become a teacher at a school. She becomes an independent woman and stays away from Adeel. Adeel yearns for her return someday.
