He was born on 23rd January 1975 in Karachi, Pakistan. He completed his studies at S.M. Government Arts & Commerce College Karachi. With no formal education in dramatics, he started his career as a theatre artist in 1990 and gained popularity past his debut television series 'Colony 52' in the 1990s, which endeared for its depiction of former Karachi traditions. The theater augmented his acting skills and refined his talent that out-turned him as the finest actor in Pakistan Media Industry.

Mairaj also performed German, French, English, and Urdu plays that required intense examination of the script.
