Small Wonder is an American science-fiction/ children’s comedy that was broadcast from 1985 to 1989. It revolves around a family that gets into various silly situations after taking in a child look-alike android. Ted Lawson is an inventor for United Robotics. In order to help disabled children, he creates an android called Voice Input Child Identicant or V.I.C.I. It is modelled after a real little girl. He calls it Vicki for short. To help develop the android’s functionality, he decides to keep her with his family. His family consists of his wife Joan and his 10-year-old son Jamie. They try to pass Vicki as a recently orphaned relative they have adopted. They also try to be as quiet as they can about her existence.
Chaos ensues. Vicki is a robot after all. She speaks in a monotone voice, is not capable of human emotions, takes every sentence spoken quite literally, and repeats whatever sentence is spoken. The cherry on top is her inhuman speed and strength. She also has a lot of additional characteristics: there is an AC under one of her arms, a data port under the other one, and an access panel on her back. To add to the pandemonium, their neighbours, the Brindles, are very nosy and drop in at the most unexpected or inconvenient times to snoop. All of these keep the Lawsons on their toes as they try to live as normal a life as they can.
