The Nandhini serial begins with a man named Rathnavel falling in love with a mysterious girl who is an Ichadari snake named Parvathy. They both get married. She gave birth to twins - "Nandini" and "Ganga." Nandini inherited the serpent quality, and Ganga inherited the human quality. To save her husband, Parvathy turns him into a transgender person so that his clans don't kill him and give him Ganga. Later, Rathnavel gives Ganga to a maid Manickam. He is childless and thinks Ganga is his daughter. She grows up in the palace. Then Rathnavel changes his name and lives for the God Karuppar.

After many years Ganga and Arun die, and their daughters Janano, along with Devaasena, save Kala Chakra. After Janani's death, Nandhini comes back and kills evil.
