Marathi Tv Serial Aavhaan

Aavhaan is a Marathi language television series aired on the renowned channel Doordarshan. The show was adapted from a trendy Marathi novel and deals with the most evil issues in society i.e., dowry, deaths, and human relationships. The show’s storyline revolves around the lives of the family members of an average Indian household. The mother has a dominant personality, and she controls everything around her. Her weak son is entirely under her influence, while her husband is one of the characters with the purest heart. The married couple are exact opposites of each other. In the story, the mother and son duo, makes the life of the newly married girl unbearable, by constantly mentally torturing her, asking for dowry. By the show’s end, the son runs away while the mother is destroyed. How do these two repent for their sins? Was the daughter- in-law successful in taking the perfect revenge? The story deals with that.

Avahan is an old Marathi serial that revolves around the concept of dowry and how it affects the victims and their families. Dowry deaths are labeled as criminal offences that are committed against women by their in-laws and are punishable by the laws of the nation. It often leads the women who are victims of such offences to suffer from domestic abuse as well. The serial chooses to portray the concept of dowry and dowry deaths and how they can be prevented.

The plot introduces the audience to a mother-son duo where the mother is portrayed as an influential and power-hungry woman while the son is portrayed as a man who blindly follows everything his mother tells him to do. When her son marries a young woman she decides to harass her daughter-in-law always making it a point to ask her for dowry, insulting and verbally abusing her regarding her character and her family. The father-in-law is portrayed as a good man who is not under the influence of his wife and always tries to help the daughter-in-law.

The son resorts to threatening his wife for dowry. But all their efforts go in vain because the wife is a strong woman who always protests against such offences and always fights for justice. As the story progresses she also uncovers an ugly truth that her husband had a previous wife who had died. She tries to uncover the whole truth and soon finds out that the previous woman was also a victim of dowry death.

She decides to protest against this offence by joining Sobti Sanghatana. Sobti Sanghatana is an organization made to promote awareness and fight for gender equality. She along with the help of the father-in-law decides to teach the mother-son duo a lesson for all their crimes. How she manages to stand up for herself and bring justice is what constitutes the rest of the episodes.
