DD Bharati is a television channel that aims to bring awareness about the prosperous and unique culture of our country, India. Here, it brings another show, Jugalbandi depicting two musicians competing with their classical music. The channel started the series on Indian Classical Music with the telecast of ‘Jugalbandi’ featuring the masters to classical music of different fields of music. The first episode was aired on 7th February 2002. The time for the show was nine at night. The series was produced by Gyan Seth. The first series of ‘Jugalbandi’ was anchored by sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan Among the Great Kalakars of India, Ustad Vilayat K >> Read More... . The first series was of thirteen episodes. It presented twenty-six artists with different talents, playing unique musical instruments with utter perfection. The ragas (melody) were capable of maintaining a very tranquil atmosphere. Every musical note they played was so soothing to not only the ears but can also awaken each part of the body.
The host gives detailed information about the guest musician peeping into their lives about their professional and personal career. The guest gives their introduction to how they started playing their instrument. The guest introduces their gurus and how they gave them their valuable learnings. They tell us how they used to practice music for hours and how lost they were with their music. They also share some incidents from their career in music, about their fellow musicians, and also about the awards they have won. They share their strengths and weakness from their childhood. They introduce their musical instrument and express their love for the same.
The stage is full of musicians of every kind with Anirudh Athreya playing Khanjaree, Akhtar Hasan on Tabla, hands of Akshaya Vibho on Keyboard, Amrita Vibho on Drums. The guest shows their talent by playing his instrument. This Jugalbandi is less a competition and more of the learning and showing varied musical rhythms and melodies. Some of the guests at the show were Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Ustad Rashid Khan, Dr. Bala Murali Krishna, Pandit Ajay Chakraborty, Acharya L.R. Vishwanath, and Dr. T.K. Murthy.
