Ink is an American-originated TV show who Diane English created. The show would be aired on the CBS channel for nearly thirty minutes. The first episode was telecasted on 21 October, 1996. It was titled ‘Above the Fold”. The TV show featured Ted Danson And Mary Steenburgen playing the role of Kate Montogomery and Mike Logan respectively. Kate and Mike are shown to be husband and wife and journalists in the show. Ted and Mary are married in real life as well. The show is partly inspired from the movie, His Girl Friday.
However, the script is modifies to suit the small medium, which many believed led to its failure. The show revolved around Ted and Mary’s character who meet on the White House lawn during their work assignment and they fall in love and get married. However, soon after their marriage fails but they remain cordial and to raise their daughter Abby co-jointly. Abby is their fifteen-year-old teenage daughter. What also helps them remain cordial is their love towards journalism. Both of them does well for themselves, professionally and they rise up in the position. However, Mary ends up being Ted’s boss.
The show then follows what happens to both the character and how they handle their personal and professional equation. Also to add to Mary’s woes she has to deal with Donna Fench; a fashionable young assitant who never shies from judging other and is overindulgent, a very serious reported who handles the police reporting department by the name of Ernie Trainor, a chronically stressed Alan Mesnick who works for the financial columns and a very competitive opponent named Belinda Carhardt.
A total of twenty-two episodes were telecasted while the last episode being telecasted on 19 May, 1997. The name of the last episode was ‘Phillip’. Apart from acting in the show Ted and Mary were also the producers of the show. Abby was played by Alana Austin. In spite of a stellar star cast the show didn’t manage to make a place in the audience’s heart and performed poorly. Due to its abysmal performance, the show was canned after the first season was aired. The show was shot at CBS Studio City which is located around the Studio City in Los Angeles. Some crucial, outdoor scenes were shot at the nearby streets around the Studio.
