Vamsy (or Vamsi), the director who worked as assistant director to K Vishwanath in the making of popular movie Sankarabharanam, had directed this television trivial, Lady detective, for ETV-Telugu, which was aired on every Thursday in 1995–96. Actress Mamilla Shailaja Priya (known as Priya), who acted in many Telugu serials, was cast in this serial. It was one of the blockbuster serials in Telugu television industry and it broke all the TRP records and even today, people remember this serial.
The slot of this series was Thursday, 08:30 pm to 09:00 pm. The serial showcased a lady detective, solving the problems of the society by investigating cases filed in the detective bureau. Heroine Uttara gave a mind-blowing performance as a detective in the serial and got positive reviews from the critics and audiences. ETV channel owner Ramoji Rao was the producer of the serial. Every episode had a new tale to tell. As usual, the lady detective had two assistants, who played the comic characters effectively.
Both the assistants (one lady, one main) would try to solve any case that came to lady detective’s office, but would land up only in confusing themselves. While the lady assistant would wear a skirt like a school girl, the man assistant would wear a suit-boot-tie-hat etc. to give a comedy essence to the role that they enact. Although it was shot outdoors, some scenes were even shot indoors at the Ramoji city in Hyderabad. The show gained more popularity for the comic touch. It was a wonderful treat for the viewers on ETV Telugu channel.
