Suthi Velu was born on 7 August, 1947 in a village named Bhogireddypalli, in Andhra Pradesh. His original name was Kurumaddali Lakshmi Narasimha Rao. His father was a teacher. From childhood itself he was interested in Drama and developed zeal to become an actor. At an age of seven, he gave his first stage show. But his father discouraged him towards acting. Initially, he was an employee at Vizag Ship Yard.
He started his acting career through a Telugu movie named ‘Mudda Mandaaram’. He mainly acted as comedian. He was very famous in Jandyala’s (veteran Telugu film director) comedy films for dialogue delivery and superb timing.
His name was changed to Suthivelu after the release of movie ‘
’ in which his name was Suthi. From his childhood he was nick named Velu, so after the popular character Suthi, he was named Suthivelu, which became his screen name.
He acted in more than 200 Telugu films as supporting actor and comedian. His reign was spanned from 1980-2000. He won Nandi Award for Best Supporting Actor for film ‘Vandemataram’ in 1985. He won Nandi award as best comedian in 1989 and 1990.
He was married to Lakshmi Rajyam and couple has three daughters and a son. He acted up to 2009. He recently died on 16 September, 2012 in Chennai.
Apart from films he took part in TV soaps also. He worked on channels like Doordarshan, ETV and Gemini.
