Maya is a family based Tamil melodrama that was aired on Jaya TV Monday on Friday from 22nd October 2012 to 2013 at 21:30 IST. Jaya TV is an Tamilian satellite telly channel located in Chennai (India). It also broadcasts to the non-native Tamil section via various media partnerships and allied collaborations. This TV show had only one season with more than hundred episodes, the running time of each being twenty to twenty-two minutes approximately. Maya was produced under the banner of Sathya Jyothi Films, a film production and distribution company in India founded by T. G. Thyagarajan and established by G. Thyagarajan and G. Saravanan in the nineteen-eighties. B. Nithiyanandham who had previously made numerous super hit daily soaps and mesmerized the regular audiences with his exceptional direction skills was the director of this show.
Indira Soundarrajan’s captivating story line kept the viewers glued to the television show and ever since its launch the show had received a lot of positive reviews and comments. Maya had a fully equipped professional ‘Multi-camera set-up’ layout for shooting which is a procedure of filming and video presentation using several cameras. The plot revolves around the three principal characters, the main protagonist being ‘Maya’ played by
Vani Bhojan, her loving and doting father Chanthirasekhar, her estranged mother Parameshwari and step brother Ramesh. The other characters of the show had an ensemble cast of
Easwari Rao, Vani Bhojan, Abhishek, Venkat, Mohan V. Raman and Jagadish Raman among others. Easwari Rao who played the role of alienated mother to the mainstay character Maya is an Indian actress and model who has worked in various regional languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam film industries. Abhishek as Chanthirasekhar the father to the lead loved her unconditionally supporting in each and every endeavor. He is in real life a proclaimed Indian actor and film director who began his acting career with Gnana Rajsekaran’s critically acclaimed drama film Mogamul (1995) and went on to produce his directorial debut Kathai in 2010.
