Chanakya Sabadham was originally a Tamil stage drama, which was recorded and telecast on Doordarshan. RS Manohar created the drama and National Theatres presented it. GPR produced the drama. The story and dialogue were by Madurai Thirumaran. The music composition was by C Sigamani and team. Dharmaraj and Sivaram were the art directors. Krishnan, Balan, Murthy, Munusami, Gunalan, Rajan, Vijayan, Manoharan, Jagannadhan, Mariyappan, Sekhar, T Srinivasan, and G Srinivasan were the set decorators. The set designs were by Nagarajan. The costume designing team comprised Natarajan, Ravi, Shankar, and Sudalai. Parangusam and Mohan were the makeup artists. PH Rajamohan and RA Narayanamurthy were the assistant stage playwriters. The stage play sequences are by Manovaran.

. This drama showcases how Chanakya was humiliated at King Dhanananda’s palace and his vow not to tie his hair until he sees the destruction of Dhanananda’s dynasty. The drama ends with the crowning ceremony of Chandragupta Maurya, who came to the throne with the help of Chanakya.
The drama was staged at Raja Muthiah Mandram in Madurai at the 45th Tamil Isai Vizha. The play was first staged in 1966. The drama was staged 766 times.
RS Manohar played Chanakyan, N Varadharajan played the Ratchasan, A Jayaram played Purushothaman, PS Palaniraj played Alexander, SRK played Seleucus I Nicator, Venus R Ravishankar played the wrestler, KN Ravikumar played Chandragupta, and Baby Geetha played Rajanandan. TR Latha, J Vasantha, RA Santhakumari, and Ramarajeevi played supporting roles.
