Veer Shivaji is a Hindi historical drama serial. The story is based on the life history of Shivaji, the founder of Maratha Kingdom. The serial was produced by Contiloe Telefilms, who had earlier produced Jhansi Ki Rani, historical drama series, on Zee TV.
Veer Shivaji was premiered on Colors TV in India on the 2nd day of September year 2011. The show was initially broadcasted on weekends and later on extended to five days a week from Monday to Friday at 8:30 PM.
The story starts with a young Shivaji, performed by Paras Arora, and within no time the serial became popular. The show took a leap from young to adult Shivaji performed by Dr. Amol khole. The serial which was one of the chart busters for the channel was abruptly ended on 25th of May year 2012. Sources say that many people opposed the telecast of this show. The devotees of Shivaji Maharaj claimed that there are certain incidents which are controversial. In fact, there were objections related to title and even characters of the serial.
They protested against the Colors Channel and producers of the serial for distorting the history of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. However, the production house declared that they gave a rational end to the story and put off the serial. The other reason available from media was that the dipping TRP rate compelled the Channel to stop the serial. Despite the fact that it was not easy for the serial to continue whether due to external pressure or TRP, Veer Shivaji won Colors Special Award for Recreating History by Golden petal Awards in 2011.
