The Ren and Stimpy Show, an American animated show evidently falls under the category of an animated TV show with overtones of adult comedy. The central characters are RenHoek, an impulsive Chihuahua and Stimpson, a doltish cat. John Kricfalusi and Billy West gave the voice for the primary characters of the show. The creator of the show, John Kricfalusi made appropriate use of the characters to build a sense of eccentric and dark humour with hidden sexual connotation throughout.

Added to their roles were the cheeky and suggestive dialogues that accentuated the comedy produced by deliberate illogical events. The show went on for five seasons with its pilot episode telecast on August 11, 1991, on Nickelodeon. Season 4 comprises of 26 episodes and starts off with quite an absurd note where Ren is shown to be vexed with Stimpy and in fact the whole world and decides to become a hermit. However, soon loneliness makes him go crazy. While Ren is away, Stimpy makes a look alike of Ren with his earwax. Throughout the season, Ren and Stimpy play various roles which make the humour, even more, slapstick and enjoyable.

They become everything starting from lumberjacks to dinosaurs, farm children, pixies, singers, and even spaceship travellers. They end up in unimaginable places and situations which only make the viewer roll in their aisles like in the episode where they go on an expedition to find blue-cheese and finally Ren ends up trapping Stimpy in a mine full of blue cheese. Similarly, in one of the episodes when Stimpy visits Dr.Brainchild,his body enlarges five times than the original size and the series of events that happen as a consequence is another such exhibition of their dumb and unintellectual bent of mind.In of the episodes, they try to become popular singers by trying to sabotage each other’s singing careers.

This conflict is a perfect example of the comic friction that always exists between the two of them. The duo continues to evoke laughter in the viewer by showing a difference in their opinions. For instance, once, Ren gets attracted to a chicken that they had bought but Stimpy thoroughly disapproves of his falling in love because Stimpy looks at it as if it were just a piece of meat. Wilbur Cobb, a character that makes repeated entry made an entry twice in this season, once when Ren and Stimpy become dinosaurs and again when he is narrating a story of a stupid person. The season ends with the decision of Ren and Stimpy to travel to an island named Acromegalia.
