Star Performances
Venkatesh has given topnotch performance in his role of a coach. He effortlessly plays the different shades of his role. Good acting is what that should be considered in the film industry and age should not be a concern as far as the artists act well. To put it in a nutshell, Venkatesh lives his character. Besides, he is magnanimous enough in letting the female star have a weighty role. Ritika Singh delivers a superb performance as the rebellious girl who later is driven by a sense of direction by a determined coach. Nasser gives a commendable performance.

She also went on to receive the National Award for her splendid performance. In the Telugu version too she is being cast in the female lead role and wins laurels for her performance.
The problems faced by female players and how they react after being selected for a specific sport isshown in a commendable manner by the woman director.
What’s there?
• Santosh Narayanan’s music is par excellence. In fact, he had composed music for the Tamil and Hindi versions too.
• Cinematography of Guru is commendable.
• Dialogues are worth mentioning.
• The action sequences have a realistic touch.
• There is no unwanted heroism in the movie which is heartening.
What’s not there?
• The second half of the movie goes at a slow pace.
• The screenplay sometimes is in the predictable lines. However, there are not several clichés that makes the audience get distracted.
