Plot

Ponvannan and Ilavarasu are the do-gooders in the village. Ponvannan is married to Seetha and has a son, Abi Saravanan. Saravanan is a college student. Ponvannan is against casteism and moves socially with everyone, and so does his son. Saravanan’s cousin Shiny loves him. But, he is not much interested. However, their family wants to get them married. Once, Saravanan notices Shiny speaking with his friend. He mistakes their conversation and manhandles his friend, which ends up in murder. What happens next? Will he be saved from casteist people? The rest of the film deals with it.

Star Performance

The senior stars, Ponvannan, Seetha, Ilavarasu, Bose Venkat and Thennavan did their part well. Abi Saravanan did a decent job in the first half. Shiny had to improve her acting skills.

Analysis

It is a trend to make movies related to social issues like caste. However, all the films could not win the race. Only if the script is strong, the performances of the stars excel, and the director executes the movie well the film will get noticed. Saayam has good performances from the seniors. Saravanan tries to establish himself as an action hero. But, his performance as a college-goer is better than his performance in the second half. The music didn’t impress much. The visuals are okay.

Verdict

Saayam tries to showcase how students are made to involve in caste issues. The director should have made it better in the second half. If the lead stars’ performances had been better, the film would have had a better reach.
