Rajakannu belongs to a tribal community. He is married to Sengeni, and they have a daughter Alli. Sengeni is pregnant again. Rajakannu catches snakes that intrude into the houses. He and his community people are ill-treated by the people in the town. However, they lead a simple life. Mythra is a social activist who teaches these community people to read and write. Once a biggie in the town called Rajakannu, as a snake entered the house. Rajakannu catches the snake, and under the dressing table, he finds a golden earring and hands it over to the owners. After Rajakannu leaves the house, the house owners get out for an event in the next town. When they return, they find out that someone has stolen all the jewels. During the police inquiry, they say that they suspect Rajakannu. At the same time, Rajakannu travels to another town for a job. His pregnant wife and kid are at home. The police suspected Rajakannu and dragged his wife, Rajakannu’s brother Irutappan and his relative Mosakutty to the police station. They beat them ruthlessly. Later, they bring Rajakannu’s sister to the cell and ill-treat her. Finally, they find Rajakannu and beat him, to tell the truth about the jewels. But, Rajakannu tells them that he didn’t steal them. Rajakannu, Irutappan, and Mosakutty are locked in the cell, and the cops let the others go. Soon, a cop visits Sengeni and informs her that three of them broke the cell and escaped. With the help of Mythra, Sengeni meets Chandru, a lawyer who fights for justice. After Chandru starts investigating, he gets to know the truth one by one. Was Chandru able to find out the three people who are rumored to escape from the cell? Who is the real culprit? The rest of the film deals with it.
Suriya performed naturally, as usual. Lijomol Jose comes throughout the film, and she is the one who rocked. The kid that played her daughter, Alli, is also good. Manikandan played Rajakannu and did justice to the given role. Rajisha Vijayan is neat in her role. Although she has fewer dialogues, she is one of the crucial characters in the film. Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh and Guru Somasundaram are good in the given roles. Tamizh, Bala Hasan Bala Hasan is a model and actor in Indian cinema a >> Read More... , and Subramani played the cops and did justice to the given roles.
The script is inspired by the real story, where the lawyer Chandru and Rajakannu are the real names used. Without taking much time, Gnanavel gets into the story. The screenplay is good, and we don’t see any mistakes. But, a couple of songs in the background seem to be a bit draggy. However, it is okay in the sequence. The characters are written properly. The right stars are picked, the film has a huge cast, and many stars appear on the screen in a minimal time. Jayaprakash, Kumaravel, Ilavarasu, and MS Bhaskar are present in the film and have minimum dialogues. But, they appear in small roles. The BGM is okay, and the cinematography is neatly handled, although it didn’t have any great shots. The dialogues are good. Prakash Raj, Suriya, and Lijomol’s simple dialogues are good, especially Lijomol’s dialogue when she meets Jayaprakash. Suriya’s dialogue with Lijomol is also good. The film also showcases that good cops and lawyers are working for the welfare of the people. It also showcases how fake cases are forcibly thrown on innocent people. The dark side of the police station cell makes everyone shocked while watching the film. Special mention to the makeup department! We couldn't identify Lijomol that easily. Good work by the makeup technicians!
What’s Not There?
The film deals with the social message that every citizen of India should be treated equally. While we start watching the movie, we will search for Suriya. Gradually, we will get inside the story, and when Suriya appears, we hope that he will bring justice to the affected. Soon, we feel something weighing over our heads. But, after seeing the credits, we feel to meet the real Chandru! Jai Bhim is not a jolly tale, but the director has taken a sensational issue on his hands and succeeded in it. Jai Bhim – watch-worthy!
