Plot
The story revolves around a husband and wife. They live their lives happily and are blessed by a baby daughter. However, their life takes a turn. Every character in the movie struggles to find the culprit which is very hard to identify. It is based on the fact that every human crime leaves some evidence behind while it can be used in justice for the victim.
Star performance
Joby A.S plays the role of the father. He has delivered realistic acting, his portrayal of father's character is so authentic that it doesn't feel like acting anymore. Joby's character undergoes many hardships, and his acting portrays them beautifully. Srinda as Sunitha, her character has given depth to the script. Other minor actors like Indran, Nelson, Kalabhavan Prasad, Arun Sagara have delivered remarkable performances and added authenticity to the film.
Analysis
Mannamkattayum Kariyilayum is a blend of thriller and family drama. However it is a very sad movie. The movie is full of climax till the ending. Acting skills of the actors had successfully blended storyline with high level of emotional depth. The screenplay direction is top notch. The cinematography provides a realistic element to the movie. It portrays village scenes of Kerala allowing the audience to connect deeply with the story line.
The storyline took inspiration from Mannangatti and Kariyila story, an oral tale that almost everyone in Kerala must have heard. Mannamkattayum Kariyilayum explores the idea of how someone's life can take unexpected turns and can transcend their entire life. Screenplay is directed very beautifully and neatly. However, it shows a fragmented plot as if some scenes were lost. Overall, it has an unpredictable plot with many twists and turns. It provides a commentary on poverty and hunger.
