Plot

All We Imagine As Light revolves around the story of three women, two of them are in unstable romantic relationships. They live in Mumbai as migrant nurses. The three women are Anu, Prabha and Parvaty. Anu is still in her early twenties, Prabha is a bit older and also recently abandoned by her husband who did not bother to keep in touch for over a year, and Parvaty is much older. Anu and Prabha are room-mates. Anu represents youth, innocence and rebellion, whereas Prabha represents experience gradually wearing her off. One day, Prabha receives a rice cooker as a gift from her estranged husband, which affects her emotionally. It fills her with emotions that have been numbed ever since he left and never bothered to contact her. Anu on the otherhand, is busy looking for the perfect spot in Mumbai to be intimate with her boyfriend. Her boyfriend is a Muslim, and while she is in that relationship, her parents are arranging a marriage with her to smeone else. The two women Anu and Prabha travel to a beach town. In this beach town, they experience the freedom and desires that they never could before.

Star Performance

Kani Kusruti gives a compelling performance.

Divya Prabha also acts brilliantly in the film.

Analysis

The film has a slow pace, and this sort of makes it dull. All the actors have acted brilliantly. The film effectively portrays the beauty and vibe of Mumbai city. The film also shows Mumbai without sugarcoating, such as the divide between the rich and the poor people and the discrimination that the poor people face. There is an atmosphere of unresolved pain and trauma.

What’s Not There?

The film’s pace is a little too slow, which makes it dull.

Verdict

The film is great to watch, with its excellent visuals and meaningful themes. I would recommend everybody to watch it. However, it also contains the sensitive topic of strained romantic relationships, so I would suggest only those people who might get triggered, not to watch it.
