A thriller with a message for youth- Shalini is a treat to watch.

Plot: Shalini is a story of revenge and justice of a girl named Shalini. Shalini is an ordinary girl who resides in the locality. Four affluent and aristocratic boys, with their devilish mindset, get her in their clutches. The four of them then brutally rape her and murder her to save themselves from the crime. The police investigates and the four of them are acquitted n ground of lack of evidence. But to their dismay, they are not spared by the haunted spirit of the victim, Shalini. Here begins her endless quest to revenge the perpetrators. The four youths are then on killed one by one by her.

Analysis: Following the footsteps of super hit Kannada horror-thriller Ranga Tiranga, Shalini is an attempt in the same direction. The movie has done decent justice to the genre and stood well on it. The script is indeed good, but the movie’s execution is not up to the mark. The background music does not aid the suspense or the horror.

The scenes wherein the spirit is seen running, are shot hastily and thus fail to create an impact. The message is loud and clear, which makes the movie a stand out amongst others. The movie although lacks natural scenes and to top that, the songs which could have pepped up the suspense are nowhere to be found.

Star Performances: The movie has many new comers, and most of them are stage artists. Aravind, Santosh, Puneeth and Prakash, all theater artists, are making a debut. Alongside Prema and Kavya have played female counterparts. They have aptly portrayed the roles and did satisfactorily well. Shobaraj, Manadip Rai, Apoorva, Venkatesh and others are in supporting roles, aiding the cast pretty well.

What’s there?

1. A decent story with a strong message makes the movie watchable.

2. The acting skills of a few actors have been able to put up the suspense and thrill.

What’s not there?

1. The music, mainstream as well as background, is not up to the mark.

2. The stage actors, have been unable to do justice to their roles.

3. The follow-up of recent horror movies has failed miserably.

Verdict: With a strong message and decent script, the movie is a one-time watch. The actors have portrayed the roles decently and look promising.
