Plot
Shankar, an auto driver, adopts an abandoned dog named “Gunda”. But his life turns upside down when his affection for the dog deepens.
Star performance
All the actors have done a fantastic job, but Gunda will steal your heart and the bond he shared with Shivaraj. Shivaraj also gave a splendid performance.
Analysis
The film is incredibly emotional and would be especially tough for dog lovers. This is a compliment. Many films climb countless no. of ladders to show complexities in a film but this simple story of a relationship between a man and a dog is displayed in such a heart-stringing manner that you would just bawl your eyes out. The film beautifully showcases the relationship dynamics between characters even though the story mainly revolves around Shankar and Gunda, rest of the characters have also left a mark. The film is predictable but the way the narrative unfolds you wouldn’t care about it. The film can be lengthy as some of the sequences are stretched. The film is a bit exaggerated, and it claims to be based on actual events but doesn't go overboard to make the story hard to believe. This is the first role Shivaraj has been given where the tone of the character is serious, he has mostly played a comedic character but here he leaves no stone unturned and gives a fantastic performance and Gunda will make everyone fall in love with him. Naanu Mathu Gunda is a beautiful film and should be watched in theaters especially after the constant releases of action films. And the ending of this film will break your heart.

Naanu Mathu Gunda is a beautiful film and should be watched in theaters. If you’ve loved the Hollywood films Hachi: A dog’s Tale or Marley & Me you’ll surely love this film too.
