Thackeray” is a biographical movie based on the life of Bal Thackeray, the Shiv Sena Party founder. Abhijit Panse scripted and directed the film. The dialogues are by Arvind Jagtap and Manoj Yadav. The movie is produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Dr Shrikant Bhasi, Varsha Sanjay Raut, Purvashi Sanjay Raut and Vidhita Sanjay Raut. The songs are composed by Rohan – Rohan and Sandeep Shirodkar. The BGM is by Amar Mohile. Sudeep Chatterjee cranked the camera and the editing is by Ashish Mahatrae and Apurva Motivale Sahai. The movie has Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Amrita Rao, Sudhir Mishra, Abdul Quadir Amin, Laxman Singh Rajput, Anushka Jadhav, Niranjan Javir, Dr Sachin A. Jayavant, Vishal Sudarshanwar, Radha Sagar, Satish Alekar and Anand Vikas Potdukhe in the star cast.

The film speaks about the life events of Bal Thackeray right from his profession as a cartoonist to the founder of Shiv Sena. The story has Thackeray’s position as a strong Hindu leader. Babri Masjid events are also shown. The film also has the scenes to justify Thackeray’s actions.

Star Performance

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has performed well in his role. His expressions remind us of Thackeray. He had learned a lot of mannerisms of Thackeray to play him.

The director has designed the story from the point of view of Thackeray. His actions are justified. Abhijit Panse had openly mentioned about the political leaders by their original name. The production designer should be appreciated for bringing back the old Bombay through the sets. But, the screenplay is not so impressive. As it is about Bal Thackeray, the rest of the characters have less importance, especially Amrita Rao’s. The screenplay lacks some grip. The production and technical values are good. CG helped a lot in showing old Mumbai.

What’s There?

  • Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s performance is good
  • A bold attempt by the team; they didn’t change the political leaders’ name too

What’s Not There?

  • The screenplay lacks the grip
  • Except for the titular character, the rest of the characters are not designed well

Although there are a few performance-oriented scenes, this film will attract only the fans of Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bal Thackeray followers.
