Plot
The film begins with Tukaram (Om Puri) sitting on the floor with a rope tightened around his neck and a fan on the ground. It was very obvious that it was another failed suicide attempt. Tukaram is a poor farmer from Nandgaon, Marathwada whose son committed suicide, leaving the family shattered. Disheartened, Tukaram goes to Mumbai in the hopes of getting justice and help from the Government not only for him but for his fellow farmers and their families as well. But what will he do when his pleas fall on deaf ears? What will happen next? Will Tukaram get his justice? Or will his voice be suppressed? The rest of the story deals with that.
Star Performance
Om Puri did a splendid job as Tukaram. He is well-supported by Seema Biswas, Govind Namdev, Dilip Tahil and others. The supporting cast was okay-ish.
Analysis
The star cast did justice to their roles. However, the supporting cast did a terrible job in portraying their characters. The scenes involving them are so poor, sometimes even ridiculously funny, to the point that it destroys the authenticity and seriousness of the film. The director did a poor job in giving direction and setting the flow for the plot. The theme of the film was amazing but the presentation and execution was not up to the mark (below average). The background score was fantastic and the cinematography was excellent.

Verdict
Project Marathwada deals with a social issue but only succeeded in mildly impacting the audience. It can be a one-time watch just for Om Puri. His work was splendid. The film mostly rides on Om Puri’s shoulders but one can only take the whole film to a certain level. Though it can still make you think a lot about this issue.
