CAST & CREW
Plot : Akshay Kumar and John Abraham play roles in the movie Desi Boyz. They do the roles of Jerry and Nick, best friends in London who lose their jobs when a recession hits. Desperate to earn money, they sign up to be male escorts – because obviously that’s the go to a job while having a fictional job crisis. They get their escort names changed to Roxxo and hunter, and apparently they get enough money through this, to keep them going. But what happens when their girlfriends find out about their jobs as escorts?
Analysis : Another typical Bollywood feel-good movie, where the implication is that being a gigolo, is a glamorous job. (Yeah right!) The plot is full of unbelievable things if you think logically. For instance, how the women are ready to pay 400 pounds for playing cards with the men. Of course, the film is full of clichés. There is a hero, who proves his worth later. A very lame attempt at patriotism. But the movie does look better than a mediocre patchwork. At a couple of places, it makes you laugh.
Star performances: Akshay Kumar and John Abraham fans are in for a treat. Multiple scenes where their shirts get open, and you can nicely ogle over them. But that's not the only thing. Despite the horrible plot line, the duo seems to have a certain chemistry going, which is a definite plus point for the movie. Deepika Padukone gives a nice act, very accurate to her role. But the actor who doesn't live up to the acting is Chitraganda Singh. She is terrible in her role, and, to be honest, and her role is terrible too. She is attractive but comes of as trying too hard.
What is there? :
1. A funny plot, where everything seems to be said to make it funny. Great chemistry between the two main boy leads.
2. A nicely crafted movie, not shabby at all.
3. Some nice feel good songs
What's not there? :
1. A sensible plot line.
2. A scene that is not clichéd in every sense.
3. Any chemistry between the second lead pair of Akshay and Chitraganda.
Verdict : If you want to watch a movie that is beyond reality and that which paints a plausible picture of the gigolo life, then this is the movie for you.
