Plot
The film revolves around Gautami, a blind musician, and Gayatri, her twin sister. Gautami dies by suicide, and the police close the case without further ado. But Gayatri isn’t convinced with the reason of suicide because of certain events that unfold as the story proceeds. She tries to She then tries to investigate herself on the matter after she failed to convince the cops and her husband. Soon after, she realizes that she is also losing her eyesight, which adds to her problems. Will she be able to solve the mystery?
Star Performances
Taapsee’s nuanced and detailed preparation to differentiate the two roles in the movie is evident from her portrayal. However, she felt a lot inspired from the leading lady’s performance in ‘Julia’s Eyes’ rather than having her own different take on the characters. There are moments of inconsistency and lack of coherence to the character’s motives and beliefs. Gulshan is pretty good; however, he lacks chemistry with Taapsee in the film. The rest of the cast decently portrayed their parts.
Analysis
‘Blurr’ is the Bollywood adaptation of the Spanish horror thriller ‘Julia’s Eyes’. After ‘Dobara’, Taapsee is back with another remake. The film rarely deflects from the original story. The film commenced when Guatami experiences a dreadful incident after which she finds her twin sister, Gayatri hanging dead in her house. While the cops and her husband is convinced that it was a suicide, Gautami considers it a murder and tries to solve the mystery herself. The non-linear and intriguing narrative try to explore the vast possibilities and add layer to the story, however, the complexity and psychological elements make it tiring for the audience to remain stick to the storyline. The gaps and ambiguity around specific plots and twist reduce the impact of the story on the audience which makes it an unsatisfactory conclusion to the whole story. The locations and set designs deserve applause as they enhance the overall experience of viewers. The cinematography and director’s visions played a significant role in providing the horrifying and ominous setting which add suspense and thrill as the audience couldn’t decide whether it’s a ghost or a human until the very end. The first half of the film is impressive as it successfully amalgamates horror with the film’s story, and has many jump-scares and goose-bumps moments. The second half feels rushed comparatively. The background score enhances the audience’s experience and adds to the horrifying feeling. The editing in the first half was great, but felt laidback in the latter half.

Verdict
‘Blurr’ is a psychological thriller that explores the horrors and mysteries around a murder. It delivers as a psychological thriller, but lacks originality, and hence fails to cater audience. Also, the story is quite complex, rendering specific viewers to opt for not watching it.
