Plot
Jaishnavi is a 65-year-old woman who lives in a small town, Rapar, in Gujarat, making pickles for her livelihood. Her co-workers are like her family. Jaishnavi has a son who settled in Mumbai, and he has never visited her in the last ten years. Soon, she gets an invitation from her son to stay with him. She is happy and surprised, too. But, when she landed at his house, she found out that he invited her only to take care of his pet dog, as he and his family had planned a vacation to Darjeeling. Initially, Jaishnavi struggled to manage the dog, but gradually, she started developing a bond with the dog. Soon, the apartment residents became her friends, after knowing about her talent in pickle making. Will she stay there or move back to her place? The rest of the story discusses this.
Star Performance
Neena Gupta excels as the elderly lady who longs for her son’s love. Vatsal Seth plays the role of Ketan, Aachari Baa’s son. He is decent in his role, but he has nothing significant to do. Kabir Bedi appears in a few scenes and provides the needed support.
Analysis
The story discusses the loneliness of an elderly lady and the selfish motives of her son. However, the scenes set in the village are made modestly. The relationship between Aachari Baa and her co-workers is finely shown. After the story shifts to Mumbai, we can predict it easily. Though the film has emotional scenes, they lack depth. Though the performances are decent, the story looks one-dimensional. The songs are decent. The visuals are neat, and editing is okay.
