Plot

Mary and Michael are an estranged couple that live together. Both of them are involved in extra-marital affairs. Their respective partners Robert and Lucy have asked them to break up their marriage as there is nothing left for them to salvage. They are waiting for them to meet their son and tell him about the break up in person, while neither of them knows of the other person’s adultery. Everything about the break up goes according to plan until they fall for the person they lesast expected to.

Star Performance

All the performances were excellent. The cast is quite convincing in their respective roles. The actors execute the realistic element of the film really well.

Analysis

The film’s attempt to capture a middle-aged couple in a burnt-out monogamous marriage must be applauded as it tries to use the dramedy genre and show romance in an unconventional light, which is refreshing to watch.

What’s there?

The film is quite charming in the way it approaches the story because of its witty tone.
It is a subtle film that shines in its quiet moments as the story progresses from a comedy to a drama.
The changes in the tone of the film are executed smoothly.
All four characters are really fascinating and complex especially once their dynamic is explained on-screen.
The absurd plot has a strong human emotion behind it, which is refreshing to see.
The characters seem like real people as their dialogue and characteristics are natural, which may be relatable for certain viewers.
Despite the story broaching the subject of infidelity, it remains tender and gentle with the characters and treats each of them with dignity.
The technical aspects of the film such as cinematography are the highlight of the film.

What’s not there?

The film falters with the pacing as each scene feels too long.
It is hard for the audience to connect to characters, and hence see them grow and accept their flaws.
The soundtrack of the film is overbearing.
The dialogues are not well-written.
