Plot: The movie’s story is about a British Muslim Mahmud Nazir whose identity is suddenly under question after the death of his ‘mother’. The crisis happens when he discovers he is not the child of his mother, but just an adopted one. To add up to the shock, he is not a Muslim even. He was born to a Jewish mother who had given him a Jewish name. What follows is a comedy of errors.

The subject of the story is a very sensitive one. Sometimes, movie makers have to handle death or corporate misconduct with a lighter vein. The reason is that such careful approach is to avoid a row. The movie The Infidel humorously handles a subject that could otherwise have sparked off a row. Actor Omid Djalili has done the role of Mahmud in the movie. Mahmud is not a very orthodox Muslim, but his religious identity is going to be under question. In other words, trouble is brewing.

One fine day, Mahmud is cleaning the house of his dead mother. He stumbles on some documents that reveal that he is a Jew, and who he believed to be his mother is not his mother. Now, Mahmud is on crossroads. His son is all set to impress his fiancé’s stepfather.
