‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ is the last film of the trilogy based on a dystopian young adult world created by author James Dashner.

Plot

The movie begins with a high powered train chase where the lead characters (the rebels) are trying to save the kids that are being taken to the WCKD headquarters. The WCKD scientists want to use the blood of the children to experiment and to seek out a cure that has plagued the world, which turns humans into zombies (called Cranks). The plague is caused by the Solar Flares of the dying sun. The entire motto is for the WCKD scientists to search for the cure, using any and all means necessary, and for the rebels to prevent the scientists from misusing the human lives.

Analysis

The era of young adult dystopian movies is long past. The Maze Runner Click to look into! >> Read More... though does complete its trilogy, unlike the other dystopian films (Divergent, Ender’s Game and The Fifth Wave) which fizzled out. Though this franchise doesn’t even come close to the Hunger Games scenario, this movie is the best in the trilogy. Director Wes Ball has cut down on a lot of branching stories and puts the focus only on the action-packed chase scenes. After cutting out most of the conspiracies of the story, as given in the book, the movie focuses mainly on the action sequences and the love triangle. It ties up all the ends to finish the series. This movie is not going to attract any newcomers, and even the loyal readers might give up. Despite the large plot holes and seemingly impossible scenes, the movie packs high-quality visuals and seamless editing.

Star Performances

The lead actor is a versatile actor, but he is not given much to work with during the movie. The evil scientists of WCKD though, give stellar performances.

What’s there?

1) A book to reel production, a dream come true for the series book lovers.

2) Action packed scenes

3) The young adult dystopian world where the young stand on a moral ground and overthrow the older generation.

What’s not there?

1) Relevance in this time where dystopian worlds have run their course

2) Overlong series that could have been wrapped up in two movies

3) Not very innovative sets

Verdict

You won’t miss anything if you don’t watch this movie. The only attraction it will buzz will be in the loyal followers of the series.
