The film has got an ‘eye’ for the belief of an afterlife!
PLOT: This story is all about a scientist, Dr. Ian Gray ( Michael Pitt Michael Pitt, originally Michael Carmen Pitt is an >> Read More... ), a molecular biologist who explores about the ‘evolution of the eye’. He comes across a woman called Sofi (Astrid Berges Frisbay), and her eyes gained his attention. The duo happens to fall in love and at the same time, a major development occurs in his research. Wretched fate leads to unexpected death of Sofi. The dejected scientist was not able to work more and his research was carried out by his colleague, Karen ( Brit Marling Brit Marling is an American Screenwriter, Producer >> Read More... ) and Kenny (Steven Yeun).
The movie shifts forward to 7 years where Ian and Karen are seemed to be a couple and she has conceived. They have their own database with different people and their iris patterns recorded in it. Ian surprisingly finds that his baby’s iris matches with someone who dies just before his wife Karen getting conceived. This engages him more into exploring about Sofi’s eyes. The rest of the movie says about how he unravels the concept behind it.
The movie switches in between the two tracks of emotion and science very well. Mike Cahill, a former sundance award winner for his debut film ‘another earth’ has touched the concepts of love, science and the fear of death in this movie. He also felt the task of getting the viewers much more involved into the script as challenging. Michael’s performance was quite decent, but it was overruled by his co-star Brit, as her performance found to be more convincing. While Karen’s role was so down to earth, Sofi was elusive. Director has dealt with the two opposite characters in a neat manner.
The director is also having a thought for producing a movie, namely ‘I’, which will portray the happenings in Ian’s life after 20 years of his breakthrough.
Verdict: Finally, it is a film which expresses that the totally different ‘faith’ and ‘science’ are intertwined together and gives the meaning of life.
