Convinced by her friends she decides to give the retirement home speed dating a chance and is disappointed but after running into Bill again outside, they exchange contacts and go on a date. Does their relationship blossom into something? How does a person who has already lived a full life deal with dating again?
Star Performance
Blythe Danner gave an amazing performance and her on-screen presence captivated the audience. She effortlessly portrayed emotions of loss, attraction and an overall comforting presence. The rest of the cast did what was expected of them and created a comfortable environment that helped me relax and enjoy the movie.
Analysis
The movie is heartwarming and wholesome. We are introduced to Carol’s routine with Hazel, and the contrast of her life without the dog can make any pet owner get emotional. Her friendship with the pool guy, Llyod seems natural, and doesn’t come off as forced. The story especially showed old people in a different light. You don’t see them as someone’s grandparent or parent but as their own individual selves who are trying to enjoy what is left of their life. I was constantly smiling throughout the movie, especially when Carol and her friends decide to smoke weed and have to deal with a police officer in a wholesome and hilarious interaction. In the end, Carol adopting an old dog shows that just because you have grown old doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and enjoy your remaining days. It’s an amazing movie.
