Analysis
This movie is less about baseball than a desperate man who also plays the game. The film explores real-life experiences and emotions of love, sorrow, failure, and survival via solid character development—a modest film with good acting from a very talented cast and some fantastic camerawork overall. The son of Lewis' character plays the primary role, who is not incredibly likable and has a problematic connection with his father exacerbated by unmet expectations and a sense of loyalty. Many of the son's terrible decisions are unlawful, and he alienates many people. The viewer's future is left up in the air after the conclusion. It's not completely happy or utterly gloomy without a solution.
