Plot
The movie was set in taxes, where football is a huge thing. The story revolves around beloved Coach Victor Trenton who believes in discipline and punctuality and can never accept tardiness. He punishes the whole team when one team member intentionally comes late for the team practice. Due to this excessive punishment, their team’s star player collapses and never gets up again. Even after this, Victor doesn’t give the team members to dwell on their fellow team members’ death and tells them to practice maintaining the winning streak. But things change when the dead team member’s mother sues him. He takes a step back a assess if his ego is more prominent than humanity.
Star performance
Brad Leland has previously done sports drama movies, and his flawless acting didn’t come as a surprise. He did a great job playing the prideful coach and then understanding the worth of all the things at stake because of his pride. Lauvin deftly was terrific as a mother who loses her only child, and the grief she depicts is very realistic. The supporting roles are all outstanding, but they had very little to no development.
Analysis
The last whistle takes a more realistic approach to showcase the negative side of sports. In contrast, it is not necessarily the negative side of the sport but the toll the pressure takes on a person to win a game. Similarly, coach victor is an excellent coach for a small-town high school team, but he overworks his team players to maintain a winning streak, which results in the death of a team player.
The story connects with the viewers on more than one level and stays that way throughout the movie. It could have been much better if there was a little more character development for some side characters and some sort of subplot.

Verdict
It is a good high school sports movie, which shows a more complex side of sports and what the players go through. The screenwriting is amazing, but a few things are very slow-paced. All in all, a great movie with a great message.
