Plot

“Dog Days” is a romantic comedy set in the backdrop of Los Angeles. The film follows the stories of different characters, their bond with their pets, and how their pets help them move forward in life. Elizabeth, played by Nina Dobrev, takes her dog to a dog therapist for his abandonment issues. She bares her soul to the therapist in the pretext of talking about her dog, and with the therapist’s help, Elizabeth and her dog move on to find love with Jimmy, played by Tone Bell. Walter, played by Ron Cephas Jones, finds a friend in Tyler, played by Finn Wolfhard, while searching for his dog Mabel. Mabel finds shelter with Grace and Kurt, played by Eva Longoria and Rob Corddry, respectively, and helps bring them closer to their adopted daughter. Tara, played by Vanessa Hudgens, takes in a stray dog and helps Garrett, played by John Bass, in making his dog adoption business successful.   

Star Performance

The entire star cast gave phenomenal performances. The dogs stand out because the dogs are filmed naturally and are allowed to play, run, jump, be lazy, and unruly.

Analysis

“Dog Days” is a wonderful romantic comedy about varied characters, their bond with their dogs, and how their dogs helped them lead better lives. Although the film deals with many characters, it resolves their stories well, and no sub-plots are left unresolved.

What’s There?

• The film has a lot of cute, furry dogs.
• Romantic arcs are also beautifully portrayed.
• The film portrays the bond between people and dogs, the love between a family, and the difference having friends makes in one’s life.

What’s Not There?

• Adult language and sexual content are present in the film. So, the film might not be suitable for family viewing.
• Predictable plotline
• The film focuses more on the characters’ stories, so the dogs often get sidelined

Verdict

“Dog Days” is a very wholesome film perfect for romantic-comedy lovers. The dogs act naturally and are very adorable. The movie perfectly portrays the bond between pets and their owners. The film would be a great watch for pet lovers.
