It is now or never for Tollywood.
Who would have thought that an enterprise which began 2024 with a bang would be struggling to break even by the end of 2024’s first half!
However, Tollywood is facing one such crisis. The year began with a jackpot in the form of ‘Hanu Man’, which grossed more than 330 crores worldwide. Even the super successful Mollywood did not come any closer in terms of ROI as compared to Prasanth Varma’s ‘Hanu Man’. While no other movie came even remotely close, films like ‘Tillu Square’, ‘Om Bheem Bush’, ‘Gaami’ kept the box office going.
However, since April, Tollywood is struggling to get even a simple box office hit, forget films hitting 100 or 200 crores. Now all eyes are on Nag Ashwin, who has to ensure that his latest flick, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, is a sure shot success.
Apart from ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, the only film from which Telugu fans have some kind of hope is Sudheer Babu’s ‘Harom Hara’, which will be releasing on 14 June, the same day as Bollywood’s ‘Chandu Champion’. But after this, there is no major hope from Tollywood until the Independence Day weekend, when Allu Ajrun starrer ‘Pushpa 2’ will hit the silver screens!
