Shekhar Kapur’s Love For Mollywood Creates Controversy!

The famous director expressed his love for Malayalam cinema, but his comment on Instagram created a huge controversy.

Shekhar Kapur revealed that he’s binge watching Malayalam cinema so much that he can barely watch Bollywood anymore. According to him, Malayalam cinema is ‘more rooted’, and it has a distinct culture that makes you fall in love with cinema once again.

While some supported his opinions, others accused him for insulting Bollywood and its approach to cinema. They cited examples of films like ‘Laapaataa Ladies’ to prove that Bollywood is way more progressive than any region in the Indian cinema, let alone Mollywood.

However, Shekhar Kapur’s comments also remind of Mammootty’s views on the success of Mollywood. Mammootty indirectly took a jibe at Bollywood for not connecting with their audience, and maintained why understanding ‘your audience’ is extremely necessary. Mammootty also said that if the audience give the due respect to good movies instead of the mediocre ones, the quality will automatically improve!
