Facebook, Messenger, Instagram Massive Outage News

Meta’s Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram faced a massive outage spike on Tuesday night, March 5.

Users were unable to load apps or sites as usual. According to the Downdetector, the site that tracks real-time issues and outages, Facebook went down at around 8:57 pm, and there are over 500,000 error reports, according to the tracker. Facebook users found they had been logged out, and when they attempted to log back in, an error message occurred stating: “Something went wrong. Please try again.” Instagram didn’t work as well.

Approximately 76% of the problems were reported by Facebook users saying they could not log in. Instagram feeds were not refreshing either, and this significant outage also extended to the Messaging platform. Users reported getting logged out, too. So far, the cause of this problem is still unknown, but according to Meta’s spokesperson, Andy Stone, they are aware of the issue and are currently working on it now.

Unfortunately, this outage impacted different kinds of businesses, especially people doing marketing and other outreach activities on Facebook. The hashtag #FacebookDown was already trending on X. Thousands shared their takes on the issue. Several memes were already shared as well.
