When you talk about India, Bollywood is one thing you cannot forget to mention. Some actors reach the greatest of heights, but when it comes to the acknowledgment of their work, a few of them have been/had been unfortunate and could not make it to the list. The Silver Lotus Award is the Indian National Awards for Film that every actor wishes to have. Here is a list of those stars whose dream never came true.

1. Dilip Kumar

He certainly is the first superstar of the Indian film fraternity, who helped Bollywood become an established industry. Naya Daur, Ram Aur Shyam, Mughal-E-Azam are just a few to mention. Who knew that even the iconic role of Salim could not make enough impact, and made this megastar an unfortunate actor who could not get an award for himself?

2. Shah Rukh Khan

SRK, Baadshah of Bollywood, the king of romance, has a countless number of fans, nationally as well as internationally. The actor has the second highest net worth in the world and is a winner of 8 Filmfare Awards. There is a long list of Shahrukh’s achievements, but it’s rather surprising to know that King Khan was never able to get the national award trophy in Mannat.

3. Aamir Khan

Although Mr. Perfectionist has a handful of good movies for himself & though one of his movies almost went for the Oscar Nominations but could not be perfect enough for national awards. Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par, PK, that has the highest box office collection but could not make him win the Silver Lotus Award.

4. Rajesh Khanna

This superstar, who had a large fan following, won millions of hearts with his performances in movies Anand, Safar, Kati Patang. Ladies fell for him every day. Even his wife Dimple Kapadia was one such case. Despite this positivity all around, the only not so good thing that happened to his successful career was that he could not make it tothe list of winners.

5. Salman Khan

The eternal Bhaijaan, Salman Khan, has been in the industry for 28 years and has given an immense number of hits to the nation. From being a superstar to being involved in charities and controversies, Salman has everything in his diary. There is just one blank page, besides ofcourse the marriage topic, which is the fact that Sallu Bhai never won a national award for his movies. There is a lot more to his bright career ahead, and we wish him great luck to win one in the future.

6. Manoj Kumar

Though there is not a long list to Manoj Kumar’s filmography, the quality of the movies he did was phenomenal. He was a bit inclined towards doing patriotic films, which left the audiences in tears. Purab Aur Pashchim, Do Badan are a few of his best movies. His iconic film, Upkar which won the highest number of Filmfare awards in 1968 won the national award (Golden Lotus Award) for the best movie, but the actor could not make it there.

7. Akshay Kumar

The daredevil Khiladi Kumar aka Akshay Kumar has done a variety of movies. From comedy to action to serious roles, Akki has done it all. With one of the highest box office collections, it becomes difficult for the actor as well as his fans to accept that he is not a national award winner.

8. Madhuri Dixit

It’s not only the actors that have their bad luck with National Awards. Even some of the leading ladies in the industry have not been able to make it to the final step. One such name is Madhuri Dixit. In spite of doing some great movies, she could not fit in the category of winning the trophy.

9. Madhubala

When we talk of Madhuri Dixit, another name that strikes our minds is of Madhubala. The two are often compared, and Madhuri is said to have her glance. Madhu, who was considered as a goddess in those days was one prominent name, who deserved to win the award, but alas! She could not.

10. Hema Malini

Basanti was a superstar of 70s and 80s. People would not fall short of praising her beauty and her acting. She has done a numerous number of hits including Sholay, Baghban. Her charm is still enough to give tough competition, but the lady never won a national award.

11. Dharmendra

When we talk of Hema, Dharmendra is sure to come to our minds. Not only the wife but the husband was even a greater superstar. With great success comes a greater problem. He has been more unlucky because not only a National Award, the actor could not even win the black lady (Filmfare Award).

12. Vinod Khanna

Some get rewards but aren’t lucky enough to be awarded. Another such great actor of yesteryear was Vinod Khanna. He had a long and successful career, but he was not able to win the hearts of the jury of the national awards.

13. Amrish Puri

Here comes a bad man on the list. He was one villain who was equally popular. He was as loved as any other lead actor in his movies was. But as they say, bad people do not get good things in life. So it was with this man. In spite of being a powerful actor his roles could not get him a national award

14. Shammi Kapoor

The junglee boy had done over 100s of movies in Bollywood and made people laugh and cry. With his extra ordinary acting skills, he won hearts of thousand fans, but could not impress the juries.

15. Rajinikanth

Who isn’t aware of the magic that this superstar creates on-screen. He has done over 100s of movies in more than one language. Audiences treat him as God of Tamil cinema. But even God could not get things perfect. He could not win a national award.

16. Kajol Devgan

If SRK is the king of romance; she is no less. She was highly popular critically as well as commercially. Although she left acting post her wedding, she did not lose the spark. She made her comeback in 2006, with Fanaa and won the Filmfare Award, but fortune fell a little less on her, and we know why she made her place in our countdown.

17. Dev Anand

This yesteryear star was one actor who made Bollywood get its identity internationally. He was a man that left audiences dumbstruck with his performances. He won Dada Saheb Phalke Award and had won many Filmfare Awards as well. But one award that he could not get was the National Award.

18. Sunil Dutt

This Punjabi guy was an actor, director, producer and a politician. He has a list of achievements. Starting from radio, he went up to getting Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 2005, with Padma Shree and Filmfare, but could not get a National Awards for best actor, although his movie Yaadein got the national award for best feature film.

19. Vyjayanthimala

An actress, a Carnatic singer, dancer, golf player and politician, Vyjayanthi Mala is an example of versatility at its best. She started her career at a tender age of 13. With her iconic role of Chandramukhi, Nagin, she could not impress the jury to get the national award.

20. Shatrughan Sinha

Another great actor of yesteryear, Shatrughan Sinha is a winner of four Filmfare Awards for Paras, Dost, Dostana and Kala Patthar. A politician and hosts of Bhojpuri version of KBC. In spite of being a complete package, he could not win that one award that could have made him appear in the list.
