Maya Khan is easily the most talked about TV anchor of Pakistan. She is known mostly as the host of “Subha Savera Maya Khan Ke Saath”, a morning show on the channel Samaa TV. She is also an actress, a radio jockey and occasionally does dubbing for commercials.

Her career in showbiz kicked off at a very young age of 4 as a dubbing artist. At 10, she was hosting a game show called ‘Bhujiye’ that aired in 1994 on PTV. She is well recognized for entertaining children shows and a musical program show as a kid. In the 1990s, she was cast in the 'AikMohabbatSauAfsanay Series', her first venture into drama. After the initiation of individual channels, she made her appearance in 'Laila Majnoo', a depiction of the familiar folktale of the same name. Her performance was critically acclaimed, and she earned herself a plenty of fans. She was also made to cast in the series 'Sheeshay Ka Ghar' on Geo TV. She went back to hosting shows with ARY Digital's morning show 'Bakhabar Savera'. But her most notable work was in a morning show called 'Subah Saveray Maya Ke Saath' on Samaa TV because of a contentious episode that put her in a bad light and eventually made her quit the show. She made a comeback on Express in 2013 and started hosting the channel’s morning show titled ‘The Maya Khan Show' but the show was not a hit.

On 17th January 2012, the Samaa TV aired an episode of ‘Subah Saveray Maya Ke Saath’ which caused an uproar on social websites. In the episode, Maya along with a group of women who were later called ‘vigil aunties’ went around hounding couples. They accused them of ruining the reputation of women and disapproved the fact that the couples were spending time with each other in public places. This angered both the interviewed couples and the viewers of the show. She was also criticized for not donning a veil before deciding to indulge in moral policing.

After the show had been aired, a petition started to take Khan off the air. Some people put up videos on YouTube showing her singing and dancing with a man to expose her hypocritical ways. She had to apologize twice, but it did not stop Samaa TV from dismissing her.
