Nasser Turabi was an Urdu poet known for AKs-e-Faryadi, Laarib and SHeriyat. He was born on 15th June 1945 in Hyderabad, India. But his family migrated to Pakistan after the partition. His father was a religious scholar and a Sufi poet. He graduated from the University of Karachi and attained a master’s degree in public relations. One of his famous poems, written in 1971 was ‘Who Humsafar Tha Magar’. This poem was the title song for the TV serial ‘Humsafar’. Aks-e-Faryadi is his first collection of poetries. Then later, he published his books ‘Sheriyat’ and ‘Larib’. Larib is a dictionary of colloquial English words and slangs. His other famous ghazals are ‘Tujhe Kya Safar’, ‘Dekh Le Te Hai Ab’, Main Bhi Abhi Kaash Kabhie, etc. He wrote poetries and prose, too. He practised writing on different genres such as qasida, o salam etc. He rigorously studied Urdu grammar and started using zamins. He won the llama Iqbal Award in 2020. He was the executive member of Pakistani Writers Guild from 1978 to 1983. He was the board member of various associations such as Area Study Center of Europe from 1994 to 1997, Institute of Clinical Psychology, REHAB etc. He organized different literary programs on National Radio and Television. He was the advisor at Hamdard University for designing curriculum for Bachelor’s and master’s level programs. He has conducted seminars, hosted events, and participated in workshops to promoting Urdu literature. He died on 10th January, 2021, in Karachi due to cardiac arrest.
