Kunwar Mohinder Singh Bedi was born in Montgomery, Punjab, in British India. His family shifted to Fazilka, India, after the Partition of India-Pakistan. He was born on 9th March 1909. His pen name is Sahar. Sahar’s career started in the year 1962 with his first book of poetry, which was named, Tulu-i-Sahar, i.e., Advent of Daybreak. The title tends to play with the Urdu word Sahar which means daybreak. A collection of his autobiographical poetry Yadon ka Jashan (A Celebration of Memories), is also published. Jashan-e-Sahar (A Celebration of Sahar) was a well-known international event conducted to celebrate his poetry, and it took place in the U.A.E in 1992.
His work called for the idea of peace, love, and Hindi-Muslim harmony under the circumstances of the Partition. In the Indian film industry, Sahar also participated and produced three films: Man Jeete Jag Jeet (1973), Dukh Bhanjan Tera Naam (1974), and Charandas. (1977). The Haryana Urdu Akademi presents the Kanwar Mohinder Singh Bedi Award, established in his honor. Kunwar Mohinder Singh Bedi died on 18th July 1992.
