U. VIshweswar Rao was an Indian film director, producer, and screenwriter who predominantly worked in the Telugu film industry. He was a legendary producer with several big hit films credited to his name. His work was not only limited to commercial entertainment but also included art cinema. He is notably known for films like Theerpu (1975), Niluvu Dopidi (1968), and Harischandrudu (1980). His exceptional vision as a Producer-Director made him well-known in the industry and landed him several awards. For the movie Keerthi Kantha Kanakan (1982), he won the Best Director at the Nandi Awards. His directorial movie Pellila Chadarangam (1988) won the award for Best screenplay.

for Best Feature Film in Telugu for Nagna Sathyam (1979) and Harischandrudu. Having produced over two dozen films, Rao left his mark on Telugu cinema. He was the recipient of the honorary award from Dadasaheb Phalke Academy, Mumbai. He was a part of the jury for the 17th National Film Awards and the Nandi Awards. He worked as a secretary for the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce. He was also the managing director of the South Indian Film Export Promotion Council for a brief period. His other works include Kanchu Kota (1967), Desoddharakulu (1973), Pettandarlu (1970), and Theerumanam (1984), etc. The legend passed away on 20th May 2021 after getting diagnosed with Covid-19.
