N V B Chowdary is a filmmaker in the Telugu Movie Industry. He was the director of Keechaka, which was a dark crime thriller. The movie had showcased scenes of sexual abuse and graphical violence. Women activists all over Andhra Pradesh vented their anger on the vulgar depiction of women in the movie. They even threatened to stop the screening, lest the scenes weren’t removed. The activists had said that they weren’t against the director or the film. They stressed that their problem was with the trailer that lasted 126 seconds, which was showcased on the YouTube platform. The trailer showcased women being harassed, beaten up and hurt with cigarette stubs. All the activists voiced their concern in a press meet in Hyderabad. N V B Chowdary’s Keechaka had also shown minor girls being sexually abused, which was alarming. Even the president of human rights association complained that the directors were trying to make money out of such dirty and cheap movie sequences.
Women activists have also questioned as to how the movie despite having vulgar scenes has been given nod from the censor board. One of the members of Censor board has made it clear that they haven’t given their assent. Most filmmakers these days showcase women in a vulgar and demeaning way, and soon get away with an A certificate. Censor Board also said that it were the producers who were releasing trailers on TV Channels and YouTube. The board clarified that it cannot control the social media. The story of the film revolves around social issues in the country. It focuses on how women are mistreated in the lower strata of the society. It portrays how women from financially poor background endure humiliation and abuse at the hands of men. Chowdhary’s movie had garnered much attention pre-release due to the controversies, but it didn’t fare well at the box office.
