Dr. Anil Sapkal is a well-known academician, creative writer in Marathi, and filmmaker. Anil Sapkal was born on December 13, 1966, in Wai, Maharashtra, Satara. He did his schooling in Koregaon, and for higher studies, he moved to Pune. He completed his graduation and masters in Marathi literature from Fergusson College, Pune. In 1966 he was awarded a Ph.D. Degree for research work on Marathi Chitrapatachi Patkatha: Ek Chikitsak Abhayaas from Savitribai Phule Pune University.
In 2014 he started working as a Professor at the Marathi Department, University of Mumbai. He has worked as a scriptwriter for a few Marathi feature films. Recently in 2014, He wrote the screenplay dialogue for the Marathi feature films Dhol Taashe and Dhangarwada. He has also worked as an associative director for the feature films Sugandha, directed by Shrinivas Bhanage in 1996, and Dharala Tar Chavataya, directed by Shrinivas Bhanage. Anil Sapkal was the coordinator, for Yuvawani Programmes of All India Radio, Pune for some period.
Some of his famous novels include Bhadaas, Peshwait Melela Pandhra Undir, and Parambya. He has won many recognitions and awards for his creative writing and books. He was awarded the Tuka Mhane award for the novel ‘Bhadaas’ in 2003.
