Geeta Mali

Geeta Mali, fondly known as the Song Bird, was born in Nashik, India. She was a Marathi film playback singer. Her mother is Majula Shewale and her two brothers are Mahesh and Chetanram Shewale. She was married to Vijay Mali, a lawyer by profession and they had a son together, Mohit Mali. She did her initial schooling at Maratha High School in Nashik and later completed her Master’s Degree in Indian Classical music from SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai.

She was a part of a number of Marathi films as a playback singer and stood out with her talent. In 2015, she was presented with the prestigious Swayamsiddha Award and also performed multiple hit songs at the Nashik International Film Festival in 2016. In 2018, she recorded a Ganapati Geete in Marathi for Ganesh Utsav. Her live shows and recordings were what made her a fan favourite. Her YouTube channel, Geeta Mali, was growing in popularity as she posted more videos of her songs. Taking a bold step towards the future, she even started her own venture called ‘Geeta Ganga Musical Band’.

However, her journey was cut short by a tragic car accident on the Mumbai-Agra highway road, when she and her husband were returning from Mumbai Airport to her home in Nashik. Around 3 pm in the afternoon, their car collided with an oil container resulting in critical injuries to both Geeta and her husband. They were admitted to the nearest hospital, Shahapur Rural Hospital, where Geeta passed away during treatment while her husband remained alive, but in serious condition. Her fans were shocked by her sudden and unfortunate demise and mourned the loss of an incredible idol.
