Satyasheel Deshpande

Satyasheel Deshpande, or Pandit Satyasheel Deshpande, is a famous Indian classical musician. He is a singer of Hindustani music style. He was born on 9 January 1951. His father, Vamanrao Deshpande, was a known musicologist. He learned music under Pandit Kumar Gandharva. Satyasheel Deshpande is specifically a Khayal singer. Khayal is a form of Indian classical music which lasts for usually 20-40 minutes. 

Satyasheel Deshpande sings in music festivals and occasions. He has also sung for some Bollywood films. In 1982, he sang for the film Vijeta. He sang Man Anand Anand Chhayo in the film. One of his best-known songs is Joothe Naina Bole. He created an FMCM, that is, A Five Minute Classical Music khayal piece for the foundation. This is contradictory to the original khayal, which lasts for more than 20 minutes. This attracted those towards the music, who don’t generally connect with Hindustani Classical music because it lasts for so long. In 2004, Satyasheel Deshpande released his album, Kahen. The album was produced by Dinanath Smruti Pratishthaan. Three years later, in 2007, his other album was released. It was produced by Ninad and was titled Thumri Katha-The Story of Thumri. Some of the best songs sung by him are Jaani Jaani, Sarean Jaltana, and Tapan Laagi Geheri. 

Pandit Satyasheel has trained various artists and musicians. Some of the notable names from his trainees are Pushkar Lele, Anand Thakore, and Kauashal Inamdar. He has established the Samvaad Foundation at his residence. He collects Hindustani archives at the foundation. He established the foundation with the help of a Ford Foundation Grant. In 2007, he was awarded with the Raza Award. The Raza Award is presented in memory of a known painter, S.H. Raza. He has also received the Homi Bhabha Fellowship Award from the Homi Bhabha Fellowship Council. The award is presented in memory of the Indian physicist Homi J. Bhabha. He is also honoured with the Shri Ga Majgaokar Puraskar.
