Kalpana Saroj is an Indian film producer, entrepreneur and Tedx speaker. She was born in 1961 in Roperkheda, Maharashtra, India. Her father was a police constable. She got married to Samir Saroj in 1980. Her husband died in 1989. She has two children. She had to suffer physical abuse from her husband's family. She left her husband's house and lived with her parents.
She started to work in a garment factory to support her family. She started a tailoring business and then a furniture store by using government loans. She started a film production house named KS Film Production. She also built up a real estate business. In 2013, she was awarded the Padma Shri for Trade and Industry. She was also a member of the board of directors of Bhartiya Mahila Bank. Her life is an inspiration for women
