Kusumagraj is a Marathi poet whose real name is Vishnu Vaman Shriwadkar. He was born on 27 February 1912 in Nasik, Bombay Presidency, India. He belonged to a Deshastha Brahmin family. He is a poet, author, playwright, novelist, short story writer, and humanist. He used to write on freedom, justice, and various other related topics. He has written sixteen books of poems, three novels, eight books of short stories, seven volumes of essays, eighteen plays, and six one-act plays in his career of five decades. As his work in Marathi Literature is exceptionally honorable, ‘Marathi Bhasha Din’ is celebrated every year on his birthday, 27 February. He has received many awards like the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1974, Ram Ganesh Gadkari Award in 1985, Jnanpith Award in 1987, Sangeet Nātya Lekhan Award in 1988, Padmabhushan award in 1991, and many more.
