Kumar Gokhale was an Indian photographer and veteran calligrapher. He was from Mirza and was a chemistry graduate. He was a leading portrait photographer and entered the field of photography in 1984. Besides photography, he is also well-known for his calligraphy skills. Through his talent and skills, he has portrayed various Marathi film celebrities. He got his calligraphy skills from his father. His interest was in painting, calligraphy and photography from the beginning. Under the mentorship of Sharad Apte and calligrapher Kamal Shegde, he studied different calligraphic styles of painters of Pune. He created advertisements for newspapers and magazines, giving him attention in the region.
Besides this, he has written letters in various Marathi films and done calligraphy for various book covers, like Mohan Joshi’s “Nut Khat” and Shriram Ranade’s autobiography. Sooner, he started taking photography lessons from Ram Abhyankar. He created advertisements for dramas and Marathi theatre plays like, “Samajswasthwat”, “Jhund”, “Chandra Lekha”, “Suyog”, “Natyasampada”, “Shri Chintamani” and “Bhadrakali”. He also acted in advertisements for dramas like “Lalbaug Parel”, “Ventilator”, “Lokmanya Ek Yugpurush” etc. His advertisements made the plays popular and successful, which remained memorable among the audience. He received many prestigious awards for his commendable and artistic works. He was also a mentor at MIT WPU School of Photography. He passed away in 2021.
